College Student Internships

An internship at the Child Advocacy Center of Lapeer County provides a unique opportunity to learn the workings of the child welfare and criminal justice system and to better understand the dynamics of child sexual abuse. We offer two levels of internship:

Bachelor’s Level Internships

Available for individuals completing various programs including but not limited to Social Work, Child and Family Development, Criminal Justice, Development, Marketing, and Business Administration. Applicants must have enthusiasm, a willingness to take initiative, and the ability to adapt to various situations and locations within the office and out in the community. Requires proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Publisher). All internships must be for credit and part of a class that you are currently enrolled in through a college or university.

For internship opportunities, email ally@caclapeer.org with the subject line internship.

Master of Social Work (MSW) Internships

The Child Advocacy Center of Lapeer County offers MSW internships for individuals seeking hands-on experience in trauma-informed therapy for children aged 3-18 who have experienced sexual or physical abuse. Interns gain valuable skills by maintaining a small caseload, conducting assessments, developing treatment plans, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team. Additional opportunities include training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, observing forensic interviews, and supporting advocacy and court proceedings.

We will match your program requirements as needed, and internships are unpaid. All internships must be for credit and coordinated with your college or university program.

Feedback from CAC Interns:

“The internship at the CAC has given me a great overview of how an advocacy center runs. I have learned a lot about their processes with cases that I did not learn in my classes at college. The employees are incredibly welcoming and are willing to answer any questions you may have. The interactions with the clients give you good experience with interacting with victims and making them feel comfortable in an environment they might not.” -2020 Fall Intern
