March’s Community Spotlight Member: Nancy Stimson

The Child Advocacy Center of Lapeer County would like to spotlight Nancy Stimson as March’s Community Spotlight Member. As a former detective/sergeant for the Sheriff’s Department, Nancy Stimson has provided the Lapeer Community with education and safety for over 30 years. She was the first female detective/sergeant at the Sheriff’s Department and has continued to provide for the Lapeer Community long after her retirement. Through her compassion, expertise, and commitment to our mission, Nancy has continued to provide The Child Advocacy Center of Lapeer County (CAC Lapeer) with helpful resources that we continue to utilize.  Before beginning her work with CAC Lapeer, Nancy worked closely with the Child Abuse & Neglect Council of Lapeer County.  In her experience serving the Lapeer County, she was investigating child abuse and neglect years before CAC Lapeer was established.

In the early stages of development of CAC Lapeer, Nancy joined the Board of Directors and significantly contributed to the Center’s growth. She helped relocate the Center to its current location, established the first annual Golf Outing fundraiser, and was in charge of gathering statistics for the Center every month. Nancy’s involvement with the Center continued through the years, where she currently serves on the CAC Board, providing the community with unlimited knowledge surrounding the issue and commits her time at our various events throughout the year, including Corkscrews & Brews and many more.  Needless to say, Nancy has played a vital role to project the Center forward, as well as spreading awareness and education surrounding the issue of child abuse and neglect.

As a CAC Board member, Nancy has made it her priority to see the Advocacy Center succeed in every way possible. When asked what CAC Lapeer means to her, she states, “It’s all about the victims and the services that we are able to provide them.” She firmly believes the services offered by CAC Lapeer, especially the counseling services, are vital to the healing process of the victims and family.   Nancy goes on to say, “CAC Lapeer has progressed the investigative process to minimize the trauma to victims.” She firmly believes that CAC Lapeer is an indispensable organization because it is critical for the community to be progressive in their approach to help victims work through their trauma. The Child Advocacy Center of Lapeer County would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Nancy Stimson for being a driving force in lighting the way for a child’s future.
